Friction Welding Machine

AMS was contracted by GTC (General Tool Corporation) to service a scale application after installation on a Friction Stir Welder for Ohio State University at their EWI (Edison Welding Institute) commonly referred to at the Edison Joining Center.




This is an overview of the entire Friction Welding Machine viewed opposite the operator’s station.







This is one of two Y-axis scales. Redundant feedback was incorporated to enhance machine rigidity and thus accuracy.







This is one of the Z-Axis columns. Each column used 2 scales again for machine accuracy. The Z-axis also used four motors and drives to monitor each corner of the Z-axis rail.
